Many people in the Central Highlands were hospitalized due to snake bites

Dak Lak - Medical facilities in the province have received and treated many cases of snake bites. Among them, there were deaths.

At the end of August 2024, Mr. K (37 years old, residing in Krong Nang district, Dak Lak) was bitten to death by a snake. According to the investigation, Mr. K was bitten on the ankle by a banded krait.

After that, his family transferred him to many different local medical facilities for treatment. However, Mr. K's health condition did not improve. His family continued to transfer him to Ho Chi Minh City in the hope of saving his condition. However, Mr. K later died.

According to authorities, the snake that bit Mr. K’s leg was one of the 10 most venomous snakes in Vietnam. The mortality rate from a krait bite can be up to 75% if not treated promptly.

Recently, the Central Highlands General Hospital admitted patient H (residing in Duc Minh commune, Dak Mil district, Dak Nong province). The patient was admitted in a state of shock, infection, multiple organ failure, blood clotting disorder, right leg necrosis, and unmeasurable blood pressure and pulse.

It is worth mentioning that this patient was bitten by a snake but went to a traditional healer to treat him with tobacco. Only when he fainted and went into shock did his family take him to the hospital. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of the doctors, this patient was able to save his life.

Having been bitten by a snake, Mr. Y Phong Bya u (Ea Kenh commune, Krong Pac district, Dak Lak) said that he was lucky to receive timely emergency care and saved his life.

According to Mr. Y Phong, in 2023, while gardening, he was bitten by a snake on his toe. He was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

However, the snake's venom was very strong. Mr. Y Phong had to stay in the hospital for a month and was given many different types of medicine before he recovered. To this day, he is still haunted by the pain, especially when he goes gardening or farming.

On the afternoon of October 21, information from the Central Highlands General Hospital said that since the beginning of the year, the unit has received more than 200 patients bitten by snakes. Most of the patients were admitted early, so the treatment process has had good results.

According to Doctor CKII Huynh Thi Doan Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison, Tay Nguyen General Hospital, there are still cases of subjectivity when bitten by snakes.

This is very dangerous, if not treated promptly it will affect life. Therefore, when bitten by a snake, people need to go to the nearest medical facility for emergency and timely treatment.
