Mr. Phan Van Thanh - a seriously wounded soldier (already lost his leg) is fighting for his life with cancer, often having to go for treatment, his body is withered and in pain.

Meanwhile, Mr. Thanh's wife - Ms. Tran Thi Thuy (born in 1963) has been bedridden for 5 years now. In one house, there are two elderly and sick people, one with a lost leg and cancer, and the other bedridden.

As for Mr. Viet's wife - Ms. Tran Thi Oanh, she cannot go to work because she still has to take care of her paralyzed mother, cancerous father and two young children.

On the night of May 19, after a heavy rain, the embankment behind the house collapsed, causing a small shack expanded with old bricks and corrugated iron roof to collapse where Mr. Viet and his three children were sleeping.

That was the ultimate tragedy that struck Mr. Thanh's family. Two of his grandchildren, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old, were crushed by bricks and soil and had to be hospitalized.
