According to AFP on June 30, two members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in an attack described as "terrorist and cowardly" in the city of Paveh, western Iran, near the border with the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
According to published information, gunmen opened fire on the private homes of two IRGC members, killing two and injuring two others. Iranian state television said that authorities are reviewing the entire developments of the incident as well as measures to identify those behind the attack.
It is not yet clear who the perpetrators are. However, Tehran has repeatedly accused Kurdish separatist groups operating in this area of being behind previous violence incidents, and said that these groups are linked to the US and Israel.
Later, Sepah News, the official media agency of the IRGC, announced that this force had dismantled a group operating for anti-government and separatist organizations infiltrating Iran from the Northwest border area. The report, accompanied by blurred images, showed four bodies believed to have been destroyed in the operation.
