Just a few days after the announcement, Prime Minister Takaichi also said that he would resign immediately if the coalition between his LDP party and the Japan Renovation Party (PIJ) did not win a majority in this parliamentary election. Through this, it can be seen that Ms. Takaichi intends to play a power gamble of "eating all and losing nothing".
The results of current public opinion polls in Japan all show that not only Ms. Takaichi's current ruling coalition between the LDP and the PIJ Party, but also the LDP alone is sure to win a majority in the lower house. Ms. Takaichi has two main reasons and motivations to be determined to play this biggest and most risky power gamble of her life.
First, after Ms. Takaichi was elected Chairman of the LDP, the Komeito Party ended 26 years of ruling coalition with the LDP, forcing the LDP to coalition with the PIJ Party to have a majority in the lower house - and this majority is the minimum majority. The coalition government is therefore very easy to collapse and Prime Minister Takaichi cannot hold power stably for a long time.
Only by quickly dissolving parliament and holding general elections ahead of schedule can this situation be changed, that is, can a majority be obtained in the lower house, and at the same time there is legitimacy of ruling status through voters' votes. All of Ms. Takaichi's predecessors who came to power not as well as the election results have acted like Ms. Takaichi just now.
Second, Ms. Takaichi currently has very high confidence among Japanese voters. From 65% to 70% of voters in this country trust the Prime Minister, agree with her tough, resolute and courageous economic and tariff policies as well as foreign and security policies. Ms. Takaichi wants to take full advantage of this.
Ms. Takaichi had to rush and hurry with the dissolution of parliament and holding general elections ahead of schedule because voter confidence could quickly change. In addition, the opposition, including the Komeito Party, gathered together to form a new party and a new coalition with the determination not to let Ms. Takaichi continue to rule.
