According to AP, the Israeli army has continuously launched fierce attacks in southern Lebanon, forcing tens of thousands of people to flee their homes to seek safe shelter. Meanwhile, a man was determined to stay and take care of the animals abandoned by their owners during the evacuation process.
The man, identified as Hussein Hamza, is the owner of the Mashala Shelter animal rescue camp in Kfour village (Lebanon). Currently, there are about 200 dogs and many other animals in the rescue camp.
Hamza's daily job is to drive around many areas in southern Lebanon to search for lost or abandoned pets to raise. When he returned to the rescue camp, he ate and played with these animals.
Most operating costs are based on donations from domestic people and the international community. He often posts videos of his work on Mashala Shelter's personal page and homepage on Facebook, and information about the support account is also posted at the top of the page.
Most of the posts have received a lot of attention. The online community has praised him and always prayed for him and the animals at the rescue camp to be safe.
In a video posted on social media, the 56-year-old man is still trying to rescue a dog locked in a house despite the danger of dropping a bomb with bullets. Hamza then gave it a feeding and brought it back to Mashala Shelter safely.
As long as I can reach the dogs and feed them, I will not leave, Hamza said. He saw this as his responsibility. Although he loves his job, he still needs help from others. I hope someone can ease my burden, he said.
The United Nations estimates that about 200,000 people have fled their homes due to the war. Meanwhile, the Lebanese government said the number of displaced people had exceeded 1 million.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon over the past two weeks have killed about 1,000 people, nearly a quarter of them women and children.
