Typhoon Ba Vi made landfall twice, only 20 minutes apart

Typhoon Ba Vi made landfall in eastern China on the night of July 11, bringing strong winds.

The latest storm news on the morning of July 12 said that Typhoon Ba Vi made landfall for the first time at about 11:20 pm on July 11 in Zhejiang province. Xinhua News Agency quoted information from the provincial meteorological station as saying that the storm made landfall for the first time in Yuhuan city, with winds up to 144 km/h.

According to Xinhua News Agency, after making landfall for the first time, Typhoon Ba Vi circled out to sea and made landfall for the second time in Yue Qing city about 20 minutes later.

Zhejiang provincial authorities forecast heavy rain in coastal areas and the possibility of flash floods, traffic disruptions, rivers overflowing and agricultural land flooding.

It is forecast that Typhoon Ba Vi will continue to move northwest and gradually weaken. Due to the impact of Typhoon Ba Vi, heavy rain is forecast to continue to occur in the coastal area, the central and southern areas of Zhejiang province as well as causing heavy and very heavy rain to the western areas of the province on July 12.

Before the storm made landfall, as of the morning of July 11, Chinese authorities had evacuated 1.72 million people to safe places.

Agencies, schools, transportation and outdoor activities have been suspended, more than 400 flights and dozens of trains have been canceled in Zhejiang province.

Before making landfall in China, Typhoon Bawei devastated northern Taiwan (China) and remote islands in southwestern Japan, causing trees to fall and tens of thousands of people to lose power.
