More than 110,000 people gathered in central London at the whole UK Solidarity event organized by the far-right activist Tommy Robinson on September 13.
The crowd brought flags, gathering from the morning in the Westminster area, before parade across the Westminster Bridge and stopping near Downing Street to listen to speeches. London's capital police deployed about 1,000 officers to maintain order, while separating them from about 5,000 people participating in the "Anti-Nationsite" parade organized by the far-right opposition.
The violence broke out as some people were not allowed into the main stage and sought to approach a safe area near the opposing group of protests. Police said they had faced un allowable violence, being attacked with rocks, punches, bottles and firecrackers. The authorities confirmed that they have arrested 9 people on various charges and are continuing to verify other subjects.
The event is described as the UK's "biggest free speech festival", attracting both far-right speakers from Europe and North America. Billionaire Elon Musk attended online, while politicians such as Eric Zemmour and Petr Bystron of the AfD were also present. Mr. Robinson told the crowd that the silent numbers will not be silent any longer.
Ms. Diane Abbott, a Party member, condemned Tommy Robinson and his allies for spreading dangerous information about immigrants. She called for solidarity with asylum seekers and opposed extreme claims.
The protest comes amid rising immigration tensions, as hospitals for refugees have become targets for protests.
