According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), on September 6, 2025, social networks were stirred up by a video posted on the Beat 36 Thanh Hoa Facebook page with the content reflecting a household in Nam Sam Son ward (Thanh Hoa province) as "the power meter does not run but the bill is still more than 2 million VND".
The clip quickly attracted thousands of views, comments and shares. Notably, many opinions are extreme, cursing, even calling for inciting complaints, protests... causing negative impacts on public opinion and the image of the Electricity industry.
However, when the authorities and Thanh Hoa Power Company stepped in to verify, the reality showed: The incident was not related to Thanh Hoa Power Company (a member unit of the Northern Power Corporation under Vietnam Power Group) as many people mistakenly thought.
On the same afternoon, the leaders of Thanh Hoa Power Company directed their affiliated units (Quang Xuong and Sam Son Power Management Teams) to coordinate with local authorities to conduct an inspection and clarification. The verification results showed: Ms. Tran Thi Le's family and the character in the video are not customers of Thanh Hoa Power Company but bought electricity through Quang Hung Power Service Cooperative - a unit under Thanh Hoa Power Business Management Joint Stock Company (a business outside the management system of the national Power Industry).
Regarding the cause of the fire with the electrical load in the family, the electrical meter was not working at the time of inspection because the customer's load was entering the meter instead of entering the output, leading to power loss while the meter did not measure. Therefore, the electricity bill of 2 million VND that the customer must pay is the amount collected by Quang Hung Electricity Service Cooperative after conducting an inspection, calculation and working with the homeowner's family.

According to Mr. Le Van Hoang - the son of the electricity user, the person who posted the video on social media was Mr. Luu Van Ngoc (residing in Residential Group 1, Nam Sam Son Ward, Thanh Hoa Province).
The working group recommended that the People's Committee of Nam Sam Son Ward direct the ward police to invite Mr. Luu Van Ngoc, the person who posted the video, to work to clarify the purpose of posting.
In response to this incident, the Northern Power Corporation recommended: When having questions about electricity bills, customers should contact the Power Industry in the Northern region directly via the Customer Care Center Center's phone number for inspection and objective and transparent answers.
"At the same time, customers need to periodically check the electrical system in the family, promptly detect and handle leakage and power outage incidents, to avoid power loss and raise awareness of safe, economical and efficient use of electricity" - EVNNPC recommends.
