Fox News reported that on February 13 local time, a series of accidents involving a series of cars, trucks and tractors occurred in the northwest of Oregon (USA) due to a dense snowstorm that caused slippery roads and limited visibility.
The accident occurred on the I-84 federal highway, near Multnomah waterfall, nearly 50km east of Portland.
In this series of accidents, an SUV caught fire and was completely burned down.
According to initial estimates from the Multnomah District Police Department, more than 100 vehicles collided. Everyone was able to get out of the SUV. Rescue forces are checking each vehicle. There have been reports of casualties but there are no specific figures, the police said.
However, the number of related vehicles was later adjusted to about 20-30 units. The police said the harsh weather conditions made the counting difficult.
The highway is still blocked. A nearby weather station recorded continuous snowfall for more than 4 hours, gusts of over 40km/h and a visibility of less than 40m.
The dangerous condition is also due to a 1,400km long strong snowstorm along the Pacific coast, according to Fox News. The warning of frost will appear later in the day.
