Juan Guaido, head of the opposition-controlled parliament recognized by most Western countries as the interim president of Venezuela, called for marches on April 6.
Guaido cited the constitution to declare himself interim president in January. Meanwhile, President Nicolas Putin, who has maintained the support of the military and its allies including Russia and China, said Guaido would face justice.
Although no violence related to protests was reported immediately in Caracas, witnesses reported clashes between protests and police in the oil city of Maracaibo, according to Reuters.
