The US State Department began laying off more than 1,350 employees in the US on July 12.
According to an internal announcement from the US State Department to the workforce, the dismissal affects 1,107 domestic civil servants and 246 professional diplomats working in the US.
The announcement said: "The ministry is streamlining domestic operations to focus on diplomatic priorities".
The US State Department also added that the personnel cuts are being carried out on purpose, focusing on non-core departments, offices with duplicate or redundant tasks, and places that can increase operational efficiency.
The total number of personnel cut will be around 3,000, including those who voluntarily retire, out of a total of 18,000 employees working in the US, according to the announcement and a senior official of the State Department.
The large sacking comes as the Trump administration is pushing for unprecedented reforms to the country's diplomatic team.
The reform of the US State Department is part of President Trump's unprecedented efforts to streamline the federal administration and cut back on what he sees as wasteful tax spending from the people.
