New US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that President Donald Trump has shown a clear direction to put core national interests as the guiding principle for US foreign policy.
Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must be justified by the answer to three simple questions:
Would that make America safer?
Does that make America stronger?
Would that make America more prosperous?
Mr. Rubio said he would build a State Department that is more innovative, nimble and focused. This will require changing some priorities, reducing some content and eliminating some activities.
First, the State Department must curb mass migration and secure America’s borders. The State Department will no longer engage in any activities that facilitate or encourage mass migration.
America's foreign relations with other countries, especially in the Western Hemisphere, will prioritize securing America's borders, preventing illegal migration and unrest, and negotiating the repatriation of illegal immigrants.
Next, the State Department must reward achievement and merit, including within its ranks. President Trump has issued an executive order eliminating government-wide “DEIA” (diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach) requirements, programs, and offices. This order will be implemented and followed faithfully in both letter and spirit.
In this regard, the State Department must return to the basics of diplomacy by eliminating its focus on political and cultural goals that are divisive at home and deeply unpopular abroad.
This would allow the State Department to conduct a pragmatic foreign policy, working with other nations to advance America's core national interests.
The new Secretary of State noted: "The State Department I lead will support and protect Americans' right to free speech, ending any program that leads to censorship of the American people."
Finally, the State Department must leverage its strengths and dismantle climate policies that weaken America. The State Department will use diplomacy to help President Trump fulfill his promise to restore America to energy dominance.
Secretary Rubio concluded that President Donald Trump's forward-looking agenda for the country and U.S. foreign relations will guide the State Department's refocus on America's national interests.
"In today's context of rising great power competition, I will empower our talented diplomatic team to advance the mission of making America safer, stronger, and more prosperous," the new US Secretary of State emphasized.
