On the evening of January 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulating Mr. Marco Rubio on his appointment as US Secretary of State, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the US is Vietnam's leading comprehensive strategic partner, highly appreciated the US's support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam and expressed his wish that the two sides continue to closely coordinate to further promote cooperation within the framework of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, meeting the practical interests of the people of the two countries as well as contributing to ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son once again conveyed the congratulations of the leaders of the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam to President Donald Trump and Vice President James Vance.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio assessed that the Vietnam-US relationship has a solid foundation, based on many common interests. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Secretary of State Marco Rubio hoped that the two countries would continue to build an increasingly effective comprehensive strategic partnership, and highly appreciated the concerns and major orientations proposed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son for the bilateral relationship in the coming time. Secretary of State Rubio affirmed that the Vietnam-US relationship is a typical model in international relations and shares many common interests, which are fundamental factors for the relationship to continue to develop in the coming time.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio agreed to work together to promote the exchange of high-level delegations, especially in the year marking the 30th anniversary of normalization of relations, and to discuss efforts to overcome the consequences of war, maintain the momentum of economic-trade-investment cooperation, and promote cooperation in science-technology, defense-security for the practical benefits of the people of the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the importance of promoting the ASEAN-US Strategic Partnership, the Mekong-US Partnership and ASEAN's central role, and the situation in the East Sea, while highlighting the need to enhance dialogue and actively contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son reiterated his invitation to Foreign Minister Marco Rubio to visit Vietnam. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio happily accepted the invitation and expressed his wish to visit Vietnam soon.
On the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year 2025, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on behalf of US leaders, sent New Year greetings to the leaders and people of Vietnam.
