RT reported on January 9 (local time), US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden officially became great-grandchildren after their eldest granddaughter gave birth to their first child.
Biden visited his great-grandson after finishing a press conference on the ongoing wildfires in Southern California. In an interview, the President said it was unclear whether the home of his son Hunter Biden and his wife, Melissa Cohen, was affected.
However, President Joe Biden remained optimistic: "But the good news is that today I became a great-grandfather. A 10-pound, 4-ounce baby girl." Mr. Biden misspoke and quickly corrected himself to "baby boy."
Shortly after, First Lady Jill Biden shared on Instagram a photo of her and her husband holding their newborn grandchild, with the caption: “We are proud to introduce to you our great-grandson, William Brannon Neal IV.”
The White House said Mr. Biden and his wife spent 40 minutes visiting Naomi and the baby.
The niece, Naomi Biden Neal, 31, is the daughter of Hunter Biden and his first wife, Kathleen Buhle. According to local media, Naomi gave birth to a baby boy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Naomi Biden married attorney Peter Neal at the White House in 2022, marking the first time a granddaughter of a sitting president has been married there. She announced her pregnancy in November 2024 in a social media post on Election Day.
According to multiple sources, the newborn baby is named after the younger brother of Peter Neal, who died at the age of 19 in a car accident in 2009.
Joe Biden, 82, has seven grandchildren and he often shares that he contacts them every day.
