In the second round of this year's presidential election in Poland, Mr. Nawrocki, although not from any political party, was nominated by the Party for the Law and Justice (PiS) as the presidential candidate of the PiS. Prime Minister Donald Tusk's ruling faction nominated Mr. Rafal Trzaskowski as the presidential candidate.
The Pis and the Tusk side were opposed to each other like water and fire in Poland. In the National Assembly election in Poland in 2023, Mr. Tusk won the election and ended the 8 -year PIS ruling period of the PIS. But because President Andrzej Duda was from the PIS faction and because the President in Poland had a very deep authority, the PIS faction did not let Tusk successfully ruled in recent times.
The resistance and lack of cooperation between the PiS and the ruling parties have caused this country to always be in a state of internal political and social instability, unable to carry out the necessary reforms for socio-economic development.
With Mr. Nawrocki's victory, that situation will continue at least as long as Mr. Tusk is in power, that is, he will still be in power after the election. The election results have deepened the deep divide in politics and society in Poland.
Tusk was forced to hold a confidence vote in the National Assembly on June 14 to increase his position in the power confrontation with the PiS and the new president, accepting the risk that if he failed, he would have to resign and hold a new general election ahead of schedule. Mr. Tusk was forced to gamble and eat well, but fell into a corner.
The right, far-right, left-wing and nationalism factions in Europe celebrated Mr. Nawrocki's election while the EU was deeply concerned. Most of Mr. Nawrocki's views on the rule of law and security state in Europe, on the new government in the US and Ukraine regarding Ukraine's entry into the EU and NATO are in contrast to the EU's general view.
In other words, for Mr. Nawrocki, both Mr. Tusk and the EU continue to face many difficulties and discomfort as before. For Mr. Tusk, it is difficult to govern, and for the EU, it is difficult to cooperate with Poland.
