On May 30, General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense - led a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to Hanoi, departing for the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue.
The working trip of Minister Phan Van Giang took place from May 30 to June 1 in Singapore at the invitation of the Shangri-La Dialogue Organizing Committee.
The 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue of the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of National Defense aims to continue affirming Vietnam's active, proactive role and high responsibility for international and regional issues; demonstrating Vietnam's goodwill to promote friendship, cooperation and share experiences with countries in addressing common security challenges; and at the same time expressing support for the activity jointly organized by the Singaporean Ministry of National Defense and the International Institute for Strategic Research (IISS).
Minister Phan Van Giang is expected to deliver an important speech at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue.
On the sidelines of the dialogue, Minister Phan Van Giang will also have bilateral meetings with leaders of the Ministries of National Defense and the armies of some countries to discuss measures to promote defense relations.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia's leading defense summit, where defense leaders of countries discuss the region's most pressing security challenges, participate in important bilateral negotiations and jointly propose new approaches.
According to Singaporean media, the special guest at the opening session of the Shangri-La Singapore Dialogue Forum 2025 is French President Emmanuel Macron.
In addition, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will also speak at the next meetings of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2025.
In addition to the special speech of French President Emmanuel Macron and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the public also looks forward to the speech of US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who attended the Shangri-La Dialogue for the first time, on US policies in the Indo-Pacific region.
Chinese Defense Minister Dong Quan did not attend the Shangri-La Dialogue this time. The Chinese Ministry of National Defense sent a delegation from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) National Defense University (PLA) to attend the forum in Singapore.
According to the Institute for International Strategy Research, the Shangri-La Dialogue 2025 has the most intense working schedule ever with 7 main dialogue sessions along with many sideline activities, including multilateral group dialogues and bilateral meetings.
This year's Shangri-La Dialogue is expected to have about 600 delegates, senior officials, scholars and especially about 40 young leaders.
