No deaths were recorded and 13 people were slightly injured as of 3:30 am on June 29 after a 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Cao Hung district, Nghi Tan city, Sichuan province in southwest China, according to Xinhua.
According to the Nghi Tan Earthquake Relief Department, the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment and 196 others have been evacuated. Relief efforts are being deployed orderly.
According to the China Earthquake Network Center, the earthquake occurred at 0:12 am on June 29 (Beijing time). The epicenter was recorded at latitude 28.50 degrees north and longitude 104.69 degrees east, with a depth of 6km.
The Chinese Geological Survey activated a level III emergency response after the earthquake. China applies a 4-level emergency response system, of which level I is the most serious level.
