On May 26 (Moscow time), according to TASS news agency, the US did not participate in the joint statement criticizing Russia issued by Ukraine and Western countries at the United Nations.
According to a TASS correspondent stationed at the United Nations headquarters, the statement was announced by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Andrey Melnik, at an event held at the organization's headquarters.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Melnik said that there are a total of 47 countries standing on Kiev's side and participating in the joint statement. According to published information, the list of participating parties includes many Western countries, and the European Union (EU) is also present as a political entity.
Notably, Hungary and Slovakia - two countries that have repeatedly expressed cautious views or had different approaches to some policies related to Ukraine within the EU - are also in the group of countries participating in this declaration.
However, the US did not appear on the list of countries participating or supporting the above statement.
Currently, TASS has not published the detailed content of the document nor has it specified the specific contents related to Russia in this statement. At the same time, the news agency also did not mention the reasons why Washington did not participate.
The US absence from the statement has attracted attention because Washington has long been considered one of the strongest supporting countries for Kiev since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out.
The US had previously deployed many military, financial and diplomatic support packages for Ukraine, and continuously coordinated with Western allies on many issues related to the conflict.
In the past time, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has continued to be one of the topics of much discussion at the United Nations and international forums. Joint statements related to the conflict are often seen as a signal reflecting the level of consensus or differences between countries on international issues.
The US side has not yet made an official comment regarding this information.
