Tires and batteries easily have problems when the car is parked for a long time
When a car is not used for a long time, some parts are still affected by vehicle weight, environment and material aging process. Among them, tires are a detail that easily malfunctions.
A car usually weighs more than 1 ton, while many electric vehicles are even heavier due to large batteries. When the car is parked for a long time, the entire weight is concentrated at one point of contact, making the tires easily deformed, crooked or reduced pressure. If the car is left outdoors in the sun and the tires are old, the risk of tire cracking also increases.
For 4-seater to 7-seater passenger cars, the recommended tire pressure is usually in the range of 2.2 - 2.5 bar, equivalent to 32 - 36 psi, depending on the car model. This parameter is usually recorded by the manufacturer on the driver's seat door frame or in the user manual.
Batteries are also a part that easily malfunctions when the car operates slowly. Over time, batteries can self-deplete even if the engine is not working. In many cases, car owners only need to turn on the battery to restart the engine, costing about 200,000 VND and taking 5 to 15 minutes.
According to Mr. Michael O'Connor - an engineer at SAE International, letting the car not operate for many weeks can reduce the battery's charge and shorten its lifespan if not recharged periodically.
Some other parts are also easily damaged.
In addition to tires and batteries, many other details on cars can also malfunction if the car is left for a long time without use:
Rat biting electric wires: Electric wires in the engine compartment can be bitten and damaged by rats, especially when the car is parked for a long time in a sparsely populated area. When the insulation layer is damaged, wires can touch each other causing short circuits, with repair costs of about 1 - 5 million VND.
Mosty interior: In hot and humid climate conditions, car interiors that are closed for a long time may develop mold, causing unpleasant odors and affecting health.
Some degraded mechanical details: If the car is left for many months, the fuel may spoil, the brake discs are rusty, or the wipers are stuck. Therefore, car owners should check the overall condition at the garage before reusing.
