On April 16, at a regular press conference, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued harsh criticisms aimed at Germany's role in the current Ukraine conflict.
Ms. Zakharova said that Germany has officially become the largest donor to the militarization process in Ukraine, and also a strategic partner to help the Kiev government maintain military operations on the ground.
This statement was made immediately after President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Berlin on April 14 to discuss with the German leadership. The result of this working trip was the signing of 10 new cooperation agreements, focusing on the supply and production of weapons and the deployment of an additional military aid package worth about 4.25 billion USD.
Ms. Zakharova noted that while Ukraine appreciates the support from Germany and calls Berlin a "professional defense partner", Moscow offers a completely opposite view. According to her, the increase in military equipment only contributes to prolonging the conflict and exacerbating the level of casualties.
It must be affirmed that Germany has become the main donor to the conflict and the militarization of Ukraine," Zakharova emphasized. To prove this view, she cited financial data released directly in Berlin on the scale of the budget that the German Government has poured into the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past time.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Germany's change of strategy from humanitarian aid to in-depth defense cooperation - including the maintenance of Leopard tanks and the production of artillery shells in Ukraine - is evidence that Berlin is deeper involved in direct confrontation. Moscow considers this an act that directly threatens Russia's security and interests in the region.
