However, he emphasized that Germany still maintains NATO's nuclear sharing policy and continues to cooperate with France within the framework of an expanded deterrent strategy.
According to Mr. Meyer, the German government has grasped information recently released by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) related to nuclear weapons research activities in Germany. He completely denied this information and affirmed that it is "untrue".
Previously, SVR said that, according to information collected by this agency, relevant ministries and branches in a key NATO member country have expressed concern about research activities related to nuclear weapons taking place in Germany.
SVR also quoted assessments by NATO military experts that Germany has the ability to self-produce the necessary amount of fissile material within 1 to 3 months, and can also design a nuclear explosive device that can operate for about 1 year without deploying a full-scale nuclear test.
