Xinhua News Agency on August 29 reported that China has dismissed two senior military officers of the Central Military Commission after investigations into suspected serious violations of discipline and law.
On the afternoon of August 28, the 24th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress ended at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, chaired by National Assembly Chairman Zhao Leji. According to Xinhua News Agency, many contents were approved, notably the dismissal of two generals from the Central Military Commission of China (CMC). The meeting voted to dismiss Mr. Zhang Youxia from the position of Vice Chairman of CMC and Mr. Liu Zhenli from the position of Member of CMC.
Mr. Zhang Youxia is the second person under General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping as Vice Chairman of CMC and a member of the Politburo. Mr. Liu Zhenli is a member of CMC and holds the position of Chief of Staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under CMC.
In January, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense said that Mr. Zhang Youxia and Mr. Liu Zhenli were being investigated for "suspected of serious violations of discipline and law".
