On July 29, American Airlines resumed operations after a technology incident caused all of the airline's flights in the US to be temporarily suspended for a short time.
According to Xinhua, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that on the evening of July 28 (local time), American Airlines had to temporarily suspend all flights over the US due to a technology incident affecting the airline's operating system.
Immediately after that, American Airlines announced that the systems had been gradually restored and operations were gradually returning to normal. The airline said that the decision to temporarily suspend flights was made for technical teams to handle incidents, ensure safety and stability before resuming operations.
The system has now gradually returned to operation and flights are continuing to depart. We have applied a suspension order during the time technical teams are fixing the problem," American Airlines said on social network X.
American Airlines is currently the largest airline in the US in terms of the number of passengers transported and the number of flights operated each day. Therefore, any disruption in the airline's system can affect aviation operations on a large scale.
In recent years, the global aviation industry has become increasingly dependent on information technology systems to manage flight schedules, coordinate aircraft, support passengers and process exploitation data. Therefore, technical incidents, even if they only last for a short time, can still cause chain reactions, slow down or disrupt a series of flights.
American Airlines said flights have resumed departures immediately after the system was restored. However, the airline has not yet announced whether the incident will continue to affect the schedule in the hours to come.
Currently, the FAA and American Airlines have not announced more information about the cause of the incident.
