"It would be interesting if the US used its influence over Europe and forced Europe not to reject Russian gas," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
In an interview with Channel One on March 25, Foreign Minister Lavrov confirmed that Russia and the US are negotiating the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
"Of course there are differences. But is the restoration of normal energy supply in Europe only for the benefit of Russia and the US? The Nord Stream pipeline is being discussed," Lavrov said.
"It would be interesting if the US used its influence over Europe and forced the EU not to reject Russian gas. This seems surreal," said the Russian Foreign Minister.
German and international media have reported for a period of time on covert talks between Russian and US representatives regarding the damage to US investors buying the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
German newspaper Bild reported in early March: "Information from German government sources shows that rumors of a possible deal between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin regarding gas supplies to Europe have been known for quite a long time, and this is considered a realistic scenario. Currently, Germany is in-depthly analyzing options to prevent the restart of Nord Stream 2".
