Just before Mr. Sanchez arrived in India, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and nearly half of the German cabinet visited India for an intergovernmental meeting. It can be seen that India is currently highly valued and sought after by the EU in general and EU members in particular.
The reasons lie in the practical benefits for bilateral cooperation, in India's position in its relations with the US, Russia and China as well as in India's position and potential in many aspects in the Indo-Pacific region.
The most noticed event during Mr. Sanchez's visit to India was the inauguration of the first private military aircraft manufacturing plant in India by Mr. Sanchez and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi under a 2021 agreement between the Indian Ministry of Defense and the Spanish Airbus Spain Group to invest 2.5 billion USD to build 56 C295 military transport aircraft for India, of which 16 will be built in Spain and 40 in India.
It sounds simple, but in reality, this cooperation project represents a new quality and level of cooperation between the two countries in military, defense and security, paving the way for a new era of cooperation in aviation and space.
This special area of cooperation brings new value and new importance to the cooperative relationship between the two countries, helping Spain to explore the Indian market and access the Indo-Pacific region, giving India more gateways to conquer the EU market and take advantage of Spanish investment capital.
This area of cooperation is very sensitive in the current world situation, but it is full of potential and symbolizes the mutual trust between the two countries. Such cooperation significantly and clearly enhances the value of the partnership, creating a breakthrough shift in the relationship between India and Spain.
