The transfer of missiles for the Crotale NG air defense system, along with the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile, was carried out at the request of Kiev, TASS reported.
The report stated that a fairly large part of the missiles for the Crotale NG air defense missile complexes under the Greek Air Force and Navy, along with the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missile, have been transferred to the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to verified sources from Greece, this transfer was not carried out directly but through the official process of selling military equipment to the US and France. After that, the two countries transferred the above weapons to Ukraine.
The transfer took place because the lifespan of some Sea Sparrow and Crotale missiles was nearing its end, so they were considered no longer useful to Greece but very useful to Ukraine. The Crotale air defense missile complexes were originally tasked with protecting the Greek air and naval bases.
