On September 3, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un shook hands with South Korean National Assembly Chairman Woo Won-shik during a visit to China.

The office of South Korean National Assembly Chairman Woo Won-shik said that this remarkable moment took place before the parade to celebrate the 80th Nax extended victory in Beijing took place and that Mr. Woo represented South Korea at the event.

Mr. Woo's office added that Mr. Woo had also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing and that the Russian leader had asked him if there was any message he could convey to Mr. Kim Jong-un.

Mr. Woo responded by saying that the "very important thing" at the moment is to build peace on the Korean Peninsula, despite difficult circumstances.

Before leaving for Beijing, Mr. Woo said that it was unclear whether he could meet Mr. Kim, but if so, he wanted to discuss with the North Korean leader how to build peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Several South Korean lawmakers, including a veteran politician who has facilitated past inter-Korean talks, have accompanied Mr. Woo to Beijing.

Along with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Mr. Woo was also the one who called for a resumption of dialogue between Seoul and Pyongyang after a period of particularly tense relations.

However, observers say that with the unprecedented image between these two influential figures from the two Koreas, it shows many positive signals in maintaining a good relationship, even reconciling between the two sides.
