On August 21, KCNA news agency reported that Mr. Kim Jong-un praised the North Korean soldiers participating in military activities in Russia, calling them "heroes" for commanding the combat units of the North Korean army in the campaign in Kursk province and winning the victory.
According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea has deployed more than 10,000 soldiers to Russia to support the conflict with Ukraine, and may plan to send more forces. During a meeting with officers participating in the overseas campaign, Mr. Kim Jong-un affirmed that the North Korean army has proven its strength and "strengthening the title of the most powerful army in the world".
Mr. Kim Jong-un also expressed his condolences to the North Korean soldiers who died in the conflict, when he personally carried the flag on the coffin and placed his hand on it to express gratitude.
North Korea and Russia previously signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June last year, including a mutual defense clause. As Russian President Vladimir Putin prepared to meet US President Donald Trump, Mr. Kim Jong-un held a phone call with Mr. Putin to affirm his comprehensive support for Moscow.
According to KCNA, Mr. Kim Jong-un emphasized: "Our army is a heroic army, has shown special qualities and affirmed its position as the most powerful force".
