The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on May 26 that it had shot down a MQ-9 Reaper drone after discovering that this UAV had entered Iranian airspace.
In the statement, the force also confirmed that it had shot down a RQ-4 reconnaissance drone and an F-35 fighter jet violating airspace but did not specify the time of the incidents.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared that it reserves its legitimate right to retaliate against any violation of the US ceasefire.
The incident occurred after the US military announced on the morning of May 26 that it had attacked Iranian missile launch sites for self-defense.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a propeller-driven unmanned aircraft manufactured by General Atomics and is no longer manufactured for the US military.
Each is priced at about 30 million USD, equipped with high-power sensors, including cameras. These UAVs can also carry weapons such as Hellfire missiles or JDAM guided bombs.
These UAVs are widely used in the Iranian conflict when military commanders try to limit bringing pilots into dangerous areas. Although the US has caused significant damage to Iran's military capabilities, including weakening or destroying most of the air defense system, some areas of Iranian airspace are still assessed as dangerous.
