Information announced by Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of April 2.
At the press conference, answering questions about Vietnam's exchange with Iran to create conditions for ships, including oil tankers, to circulate through the Strait of Hormuz, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said:
Since the conflict occurred, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has closely coordinated with the Ministry of Construction, directing Vietnamese representative agencies in the Middle East to closely monitor the situation, regularly update information, maintain contact with ships and crew members operating on maritime routes in the region, and be ready for support measures when necessary.
According to the spokesperson, so far, Vietnamese ships and boats are still safe.
Right from the beginning of the conflict, when Vietnamese ships encountered difficulties in the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the basis of close coordination with functional agencies, has been and is exchanging and promoting relevant parties to ensure security and safety, creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese ships and crew members to pass through this area," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
According to Ms. Pham Thu Hang, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Ministry of Construction to work with the Iranian Embassy in Hanoi and the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting the Iranian side to create conditions and implement support measures to ensure safety for Vietnamese ships and workers to leave the area, and at the same time safely circulate through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.
Currently, at the request of Vietnam, Iranian authorities are implementing procedures related to the movement of Vietnamese ships," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang also added that Vietnamese functional agencies are coordinating with businesses and ship owners to urgently complete the necessary procedures, continue to work with the local authorities on technical requirements, in order to help Vietnamese cargo ships and crew members move soon, and at the same time ensure security and safety throughout the journey.
