United Nations calls for peaceful resolution of conflicts

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the situation of conflicts in the world is increasingly out of control.

According to Xinhua News Agency, on July 23 (local time), United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on countries to strengthen collective mechanisms to peacefully resolve international disputes.

Speaking at the high-level debate session of the United Nations Security Council on peaceful resolution of disputes, Mr. Guterres said that Security Council Resolution 2788 called on all member states to effectively use the mechanisms stipulated in the United Nations Charter to peacefully resolve disputes.

According to the United Nations Secretary-General, conflicts in the world today are increasing in both quantity, intensity, duration and scope of impact. Along with that is an alarming situation when international law is underestimated, immunity is widespread and many violations are not handled.

Emphasizing that there is no military solution to the widespread conflict in the Middle East, Mr. Guterres affirmed that diplomacy is the only path to peace.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the most important foundation for maintaining world peace is still the United Nations Charter, and called on Security Council members to promote the spirit of compromise, maintain dialogue channels and make maximum efforts to resolve disputes by peaceful means.

The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2788 in July 2025 to strengthen mechanisms for peaceful resolution of international disputes.
