At least 293 civilians were killed and 1,990 injured in June, making this the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, according to the latest UN update on July 14.
Previously, the United Nations recorded the highest civilian casualties in more than 4 years in May, with 282 deaths and 1,794 injuries, but June surpassed this number.
These figures show an alarming escalating trend with the increasing number of civilian casualties, due to the increasing use of powerful weapons," said Danielle Bell, head of the United Nations Human Rights Watch Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU).
In the first 6 months of 2026, observers verified 1,396 civilian deaths and 7,978 injuries, an increase of 37% compared to the same period in 2025 and an increase of 114% compared to 2024.
This increase is mainly due to the use of long-range weapons, including missiles and drones, mainly in urban centers far from the front lines such as Kiev and the city of Dnipro.
From January to June, the number of civilian casualties from such attacks increased by 60% compared to 2025. Meanwhile, short-range drones are the cause of most civilian deaths and injuries in areas near the front lines, reaching the highest level ever recorded monthly in June with 89 deaths and 588 injuries.
