A passenger plane caught fire at an international airport in the southeastern city of Busan on January 28, forcing more than 170 passengers and crew members to evacuate, Yonhap reported.
According to information from the Busan Fire Department, the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on January 28. The fire broke out from the tail of the plane while it was in the main area of the airport, preparing to depart for Hong Kong (China) at 10:55 p.m. the same day.
All 169 passengers and 7 crew members were able to escape safely. However, one person had to be transferred to a hospital in Gyeongsang for treatment.
Immediately after receiving the notification, the fire department issued an emergency response order and quickly deployed fire extinguishing work. The fire was recorded spreading from the tail to the fuselage, creating a large amount of smoke and fire.
Images from the Metropolitan Transportation Information Center showed flames and smoke rising clearly in the area of Gimhae Airport, terrifying onlookers. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
