The legal journey to seek asylum in the US could take months and for some migrants, they could not wait any longer and decided to illegally climb the fence to cross the border.
US officials have decided to limit the number of applications for asylum at border gates on the Mexico border, many migrants from Central America believe that if they illegally cross the border, they will be processed faster. Hundreds of people in groups of migrants from South American countries have crossed the border from Mexico to the US.

The first layer of fence is about 3m high but in some locations is lower. Those who illegally cross the border choose a fence that goes through a ditch, not too high for them to climb.

After being checked by security, the migrants will be taken to another refugee camp. However, for many, being in the US is a step forward. Their asylum applications will be considered and if they meet the conditions, some will be allowed to stay.
