US says conflict in Ukraine could stop in the next few days

The White House press secretary said the US could reach the consensus of Russia and Ukraine on participating in the peace deal in the next few days.

RT reported that on February 22, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that US President Donald Trump and his team are focusing on negotiating with both sides involved in the conflict to end the war in Ukraine.

In an interview, Ms. Leavitt said: "We can achieve that this week" - referring to the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev in the next few days, in the context of the Trump administration trying to speed up the negotiation process.

Leavitt said Trump is working to build a deal he believes will be approved by Russia. She also mentioned National Security Advisor Mike Waltz - who is working continuously over the weekend to reach a peace deal.

The White House press secretary noted that negotiations on a potential deal to help the US access Ukraine's key mineral resources are still ongoing, with the participation of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Leavitt stressed that this would help recover the budget from the US people's tax and create great opportunities for economic cooperation between Washington and Kiev in the process of national reconstruction.

However, when asked whether a summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, Leavitt declined to disclose details.

According to RT, Ms. Leavitt's statements were made after negotiations between US and Russian diplomats on February 18 in Saudi Arabia, aiming to restore bilateral relations, pave the way for a summit between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin as well as promote the peace process in Ukraine.

Also on February 22, US President Donald Trump affirmed that a peace deal in Ukraine is about to be reached. We are very close, Trump said at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
