A series of Russian missiles and drones damaged many residential buildings in the capital of Ukraine.

Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital have killed 1 person and injured at least 10 others, Kiev authorities said on August 5, after the country's air force warned about ballistic missiles flying in, AFP reported.

In recent months, Ukraine has called on allies to provide more US-made Patriot interceptor missiles to protect airspace from Russian ballistic missile attacks.

AFP reporters heard many explosions in the city right after midnight and Kiev military management said a series of missile and drone attacks damaged residential buildings and some warehouses.

Among the injured, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that at least 3 people had been hospitalized, including 1 person in critical condition.

Russian attacks on Kiev and the suburbs on August 1 killed 10 people and injured more than 30, while Ukrainian drones sank a large Russian container ship in the Black Sea.

Both sides have increased long-range attacks on each other in recent weeks, with Russia increasing more than double the number of missiles used in July, according to AFP analysis.

Drones from both sides have also become a regular phenomenon, as Ukraine intensifies attacks on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities and logistics.
