This statement was shared by Russian Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev in a conversation with Russian soldiers.
The video recording the above statement was posted on Mr. Medvedev's Max channel on February 23.
“Previously, people thought that unmanned systems were not our strength. That's true. Missiles - yes. Aircraft - yes. Tanks - yes. And many other things. But UAVs are not our forte. But now, we have become the leading country in this field. That's reality,” Mr. Medvedev emphasized.
According to Mr. Medvedev, Russia's drone industry was built almost from scratch by dedicated individuals when the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out. At that time, Russia also did not place much expectation on this field.
“When everything started - at the time of launching the special military operation - there was actually not much discussion about UAVs. Moreover, as I said yesterday and may rephrase today, we did not have much hope in this field and also did not have the appropriate professional capacity,” he pointed out.
The construction of the UAV industry - that is, the field of unmanned aerial vehicles - was initially actually carried out from scratch, by dedicated people working together, some even investing with personal money. After that, the Ministry of Defense participated in this process," Mr. Dmitry Medvedev pointed out.
