Russia attacks Odesa, 36,500 Ukrainian families lose power

Damage has spread to ports and energy facilities in southern Ukraine following the Russian attack.

In the early morning of November 17, a Russian attack caused fire at port facilities and energy infrastructure in Ukraine's Odesa region, according to rescue forces.

The direct impact damaged many port equipment and some civil ships anchored. Oleksii Kuleba, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister in charge of reconstruction, said one of the ports had lost power and the technical team was urgently restoring supplies.

Due to the impact of the attack, 36,500 households across the region lost power, according to private energy company DTEK.

DTEK said its system suffered significant damage after the night attack and technical teams are working to handle it.

Local authorities warn that the situation in the area may continue to fluctuate as attacks on civil infrastructure increase, causing great pressure on restoration and ensuring energy safety.

The latest damage shows the severity of the port facilities, which play a key role in transporting goods and providing Ukraine's economic support.
