On the afternoon of November 17, the Quang Tri Provincial Civil Defense Command confirmed that, affected by the flood, there was a person in the area swept away by floodwaters and gone missing, and the forces are currently searching for him.
The victim was Mr. N.V.Th (born in 1977, residing in Ba Don ward, Quang Tri province).
At about 12:15 on November 17, Mr. N.V.Th transported coal, traveling from the direction of La Lay International Border Gate (Dakrong Commune, Quang Tri Province) to the inland area.
Taking advantage of the heavy rain, the driver drove a truck to avoid the barrier and the sign prohibiting it from crossing to cross the overflow bridge in A Rong village (La Lay commune) that was flooded.
At this time, the river water was flowing rapidly, 30-60 cm higher than the bridge surface. When the vehicle reached the middle of the bridge, the top of the cabin was pushed away from the bridge wall by the water. The driver was stuck to the rear of the car. About 15 minutes later, the entire vehicle overturned 20m from the bridge, the driver was swept away by the water.
Mr. Le Quang Thach, Chairman of the People's Committee of La Lay commune (Quang Tri province) said that by 4:00 p.m. the same day, the authorities had not yet found the tractor of the tractor-trailer swept away by floodwaters.
"Currently, the stream water is still rising very high, we have notified neighboring localities to coordinate in searching for the missing driver" - Mr. Le Quang Thach said.
