On September 23, the Russian Defense Ministry said that 152mm D-20 artillery teams of the Ivanovo Air Traffic Police, part of the Southern operational group, destroyed a cluster of Ukrainian forces near the village of Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic.
According to information from the Russian Defense Ministry, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) reconnaissance team discovered an unusually large gathering of Ukrainian soldiers in a remote area near Chasov Yar.
Immediately afterwards, D-20 artillery teams deployed their mission, attacking and eliminating a Ukrainian unit hiding in a destroyed multi-storey building.
Data from UAVs helps shelling achieve high accuracy, contributing to reducing ammunition pressure on the combat area. The Russian Defense Ministry said that the powerful shrapnel blasters were used to cause maximum damage to the enemy.
"Thanks to the smooth coordination and brave spirit of the firefighters, the task was completed, the enemy's army and ammunition depot disguised in the forest were destroyed" - the statement stated.
The artillery commander nicknamed Max said: "The artillery pieces fired strong and accurate fire."
Chasov Yar has long been one of Ukraine's most defensive positions in Donbass, located on high ground and cut off by the Seversky Donets-Donbass Canal.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian military has completely controlled the area since July 31 after months of fierce fighting, with the southern combat forces playing a key role.
A source said that Russia's landfall in Chasov Yar has caused Ukraine to suffer its largest personnel loss since the conflict broke out in 2022. It is true that thousands of enemy soldiers have died, the source said.
