Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested on charges of murdering Charlie Kirk during a speech at Utah Valley State University. Robinson was arrested after a family friend informed the police that he had admitted or hinted at being involved in the shooting. At the time of his arrest, Robinson lived with his family in Washington County, Utah, near the Nevada border.
According to the records, Robinson has no criminal record and was a registered voter but is in a state of inactive due to not voting in recent elections. Robinson is not affiliated with any political party. Governor Utah Spencer Cox said a family member told the investigation agency that Robinson had recently expressed negative views about Kirk and was increasingly interested in politics.
Robinson attended Utah State University in Logan in 2021 but only spent one semester there. Previously, Robinson impressed when he scored 34 points in the ACT exam, among the top 1% of contestants with the highest score, according to Princeton Review. A video on Facebook shows that Robinson's mother once proudly captured the moment her son received a full scholarship for four years at this school.
The mother Robinson's personal Facebook page, which has been largely deleted, previously shared photos of her family on trips and daily moments, expressing her pride in her three sons. Some photos of Robinson and his younger brother with guns are quite popular in Utah with relatively open gun laws.
Investigators said that Robinson's roommate provided the messages he sent via the Discord app, describing hiding the rifle in the bushes with a towel. The gun was later found near the scene of the shooting. Robinson is currently being held at Utah County prison in Spanish Fork, which is about 19 km from the assassination site and has not yet been formally prosecuted.
