Joseph Dunford - Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff has clearly stated 3 goals the US wants to target when launching the Syrian attack: Scientific Research Center located in Damascus, Chemical Wealth Arrangement, located west of Homs city, Syria. The final target of the attack was a chemical warehouse and a location Mattis called an icron command post.
According to Within Syria (a Syrian war monitoring agency), several targets in northern and southern Damascus, including the Jymraia research facility, hit US missiles.
However, the newspaper also accused the US missile of hitting the al-Kaswa residential area in southern Damascus. Human losses after the attack are currently unknown.
The US side has not yet spoken about the suspected missile hit a residential area that Within Syria accused.
It appears that the US military has limited its attack, completely avoiding areas where Russian troops are stationed in Syria.
It is not yet clear what weapons the US is using to attack Syria. The British Ministry of Defence said four tornadoes of the Royal Air Force participated in the airstrike in Syria.
According to Within, immediately after many loud explosions were heard in the area near the capital Damascus, the Syrian air defense system was activated to block further attacks.
Syria's SANA news agency said the country's military fired at least 13 cruise missiles in the al-Kaswa area, a suburb of the capital Damascus.
Previously, at around 9pm on April 13 (around 8am on April 14 Vietnam time), US President Donald Trump announced: "A few minutes ago, I just ordered the US armed forces to specifically attack targets related to Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons capabilities."
Mr. Trump said the campaign is in coordination with the armed forces of France and the UK, aiming to "prevent the production, spread and use of chemical weapons".
In April 2017, the US also deployed 59 cruise missiles from two offshore area ships to attack Syria. US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis affirmed that the number of weapons deployed in this airstrike was twice as many as the attack on Syria's Al-Shayrat military airport last April.
