According to Thailand's Khaosod newspaper, on the occasion of his 68th birthday on Sunday (July 28), King Rama X decorated the title of "Chao Khun Phra" or the title of King Quy Phi to Major General Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi, one of his royal wardens.
In the film broadcast on the occasion of the king's birthday, Major General Sineenat was splashed with water on the wife's head by the king while the wife knelt down according to royal rituals.
Mr. Rama X also awarded the 34-year-old female general 4 noble medals to honor her contributions to the country.
Sineenat, formerly Niramon Ounprom, is a nurse at the Ananda Mahidol military hospital.
The most recent title of King ordered in Thailand was conferred under King Rama V to Chao Khun Phra Prayoon Wong, or Pae Bunnag in 1921.
The noble tradition has been changed when kings Rama VI, Rama VII and Rama IX all had one wife while Rama VIII did not.
In May this year, right before being crowned, King Rama X announced his marriage to female general Suthida Vajirusongkorn na Ayudhya, and later crowned her Queen Suthida.
King Rama X was married four times. He married princess Soamsawali Kitiyakara in 1977 and had a child. After that, the couple divorced. King Rama X's second wife, Yuvadhida Polpraserth, married in 1994 and divorced two years later. King Rama X and his second wife had 5 children together.
In 2001, King Rama X married his third wife in 2001 and had a 13-year marriage that ended in 2014.
