Many European countries want to resume dialogue with Russia

German media believes that many European countries are changing their approach to Russia and are increasingly interested in the possibility of dialogue with Moscow.

On May 27 (Berlin time), Berliner Zeitung newspaper commented that many European countries are changing their approach to Russia and are actively seeking contact channels with Moscow more than before.

According to the article, although there is still skepticism and deep differences with Russia in Western European politics, many factors are forcing Europe to consider more seriously the possibility of negotiating with Moscow.

Sources said that the desire to end the conflict in Ukraine from the US, along with concerns about the risk of further escalating tensions in Europe, is prompting EU countries to reconsider their approach to Russia.

According to sources, after years of focusing on sanctions and military support for Kiev, some politicians and analysts in Europe have begun to mention more the possibility of needing to seek diplomatic solutions to avoid the risk of conflict getting out of control.

The article also quoted a recent statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to Izvestia newspaper about the future of Europe's security structure.

One way or another, we will have to discuss the future structure of Europe. That cannot be done without the participation of European countries," Peskov said.

According to Mr. Peskov, Russia still leaves open the possibility of dialogue and President Vladimir Putin is also ready for negotiations, but Europe has only just begun to "warm up" with this idea.

The above statements appear in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict continuing to drag on, while European countries are increasingly under great pressure on security, economy and energy.

Over the past time, many EU countries have sharply increased defense spending, expanded military support for Kiev and promoted programs to strengthen defense capabilities in the eastern flank of Europe.

However, there is currently no clear signal that the EU will soon significantly change its official stance with Russia. Economic sanctions against Moscow continue to be maintained, while relations between Russia and the West remain at a high level of tension.
