According to Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the province has received information reflecting the organization of payment of damage support funds due to storms and floods to people in Binh Dinh ward; in which there are cases where they have to wait for a long time to receive very low support, even only a few thousand VND.
Although the support level is determined based on the area, level of damage and norms according to regulations, the organization of payment, information, propaganda and policy explanation of the locality are not suitable for reality.
This makes people have to wait a long time to receive very low-value support, reducing the humanistic meaning of the post-disaster support policy, causing concern and outrage in public opinion.
The Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested Binh Dinh Ward People's Committee to urgently review and report on the situation of the case and the initial handling results to the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
At the same time, localities must seriously learn from experience, rectify the method of organization and implementation, service spirit and information and policy explanation work for people; not to let the situation of people having to travel many times or encounter troubles when receiving small value support recur.
Gia Lai province also requested to review all dossiers, lists, levels of support and the amount of money paid to each household, ensuring the right subjects, the right levels, and public transparency.
For cases receiving low support levels, localities need to proactively choose appropriate and more convenient payment methods for people, especially the elderly, patients and households in difficult circumstances.

Previously, a post appeared on Facebook reflecting the payment of damage support due to storm No. 13 in Binh Dinh ward. The content attracted attention when some households only received a few thousand VND in support money.
Through investigation, Mr. N.H. S (75 years old, residing in Hieu An residential group, Binh Dinh ward) said that after storm No. 13, the family's glass doors were broken, the corrugated iron roof behind the house was blown off, and 2 ornamental plant pots were damaged.
After the storm, the locality issued a declaration of damage. On May 24, Mr. S. was notified to come to the payment point to receive support. Present from the beginning of the afternoon but waiting for many hours and still not receiving the money, he had to ask relatives to stay and receive it instead.
After that, the family was informed to receive 2,600 VND in support money.
In addition to Mr. S.'s case, some other households were also supported for apricot tree damage with levels from 1,300 - 6,500 VND...
Leaders of Binh Dinh Ward People's Committee said that this is the first support phase for crop damage after the storm, with a total budget of more than 313 million VND for 401 households.
