"I have decided to race and will make an official announcement next week," the Hawaii Democratic congresswoman told BTV Van Jones in an interview scheduled to air at 7pm on November 12 on CNN's "The Van Jones Show."
Ms. Tulsi Gabbard - a veteran of the Iraq War, currently works in the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee.
She was the first Native American and the first Hindu in the US Congress.
"There are many reasons for me to make this decision. There are many challenges that the American people are facing that I care about and I want to help solve," she said.
The beautiful female politician listed health care, judicial reform and climate change as the main fundamental issues.
"There is one main issue at the heart of the remaining issues: it is the issue of war and peace," Gabbard added.
"I look forward to being able to get involved in this issue and discuss it in depth when we make the announcement," said Rania Batrice, senior assistant to Gabbard, who will manage her campaign. Batrice is the former deputy campaign director for Bernie Sanders in 2016.
Gabbard attracted attention with her meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in 2017. According to CNN, this meeting caused her to be widely criticized.
"At first, I didn't plan to meet him," Gabbard told CNN's Jake Tapper in January 2017.
"When I had the opportunity to meet him, I met him because I felt this meeting was important. If we declare concern for the Syrian people, for their suffering, we can meet anyone we need to meet if that can bring peace. That is exactly what we discussed," she said.
According to CNN, some other potential Democratic candidates, including strong candidates such as former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Bernie Sanders Senators, are considering whether to run for the 2020 US presidential election and are expected to announce their decision soon.
