According to Russian presidential adviser Yury Ushakov, the plots involved Ukraine and targeted central areas near the Kremlin and Red Square.
This information was shared by President Putin during a phone call with President Trump on May 19.
At a press conference on May 20, Ushakov said that President Putin affirmed that Ukraine had directly threatened foreign delegates to attend the ceremony and sought to prevent them from going to Moscow. Despite the warning from Kiev, leaders from 28 countries attended the 80th anniversary of the socialist victory in the Russian capital.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had stated that Kiev could not ensure the safety of foreign leaders visiting Moscow during the celebration. However, the event still took place with the participation of many delegates from China, Vietnam, Brazil, Egypt, Venezuela, Cuba, Serbia, Slovakia, Belarus and some other African and Asian countries.
President Putin expressed his appreciation for the "political courage" of the leaders attending.
Also during the phone call, Mr. Putin announced that, ahead of the celebration and the 3-day ceasefire announced by Russia, Ukrainian forces have deployed more than 500 suicide drones and Storm Shadow cruise missiles provided by the UK, targeting many areas in Russian territory, including the capital Moscow. Most of these strikes were intercepted by Russian air defense systems.
Mr. Ushakov quoted President Putin as emphasizing that the people behind these threats are those who honor socialist crimes.
Russia's warning shows that Kiev's efforts to disrupt commemorative events with the participation of many international leaders, while causing instability right in the political center and historical symbol of Russia.
