Russian official: EU creates its own upcoming energy crisis

Russian officials pointed out that gas reserves in Europe have fallen to a record low as winter approaches, due to the decision to abandon supplies from Moscow.

The European Union (EU) is facing the consequences of the energy crisis that the bloc itself created when refusing to buy Russian gas, said Kirill Dmitriev - Special Representative of the Russian President for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries cum General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund - according to TASS.

Winter is approaching in the context of separating from Russian gas: Germany has only filled 47.6% of its gas storage compared to the normal level of 75%, while the Netherlands has only reached 38.5% compared to 77%," he wrote on social network X. "The EU is facing an energy crisis created by itself," he added.

Previously, Russian energy corporation Gazprom said that the volume of gas in underground storage facilities (UGS) in Europe is currently at a record low.

Currently, European UGS facilities have only been filled 54.32% compared to 70.7% last year, containing about 63.7 billion cubic meters of gas, 13.8 billion cubic meters less than last year's reserves, according to TASS calculations based on data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). This is the lowest level since 2011.
