7 people were killed after a fire-fighting helicopter crashed in San Juan province in western Argentina on July 29 (local time) while on a training mission, local authorities said.
The Bell 412 helicopter was conducting a training flight before departing for neighboring La Rioja province to assist in fighting forest fires when it crashed at Ischigualasto Natural Park. This vehicle lost contact with the base at about 10:30 am local time.
With deep pain, we received news of the helicopter accident that occurred in our province, in which 7 people were unfortunately killed," San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego said in an article on X.
The wreckage of the crashed helicopter was found in a rugged mountainous area of Ischigualasto National Park, also known as the "Moon Valley" - a World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO for its special geological and fossil values. The complex terrain has made it extremely difficult to access the scene and recover the bodies of the victims.
