Xinhua News Agency reported that the Israeli Ministry of Transport on July 15 (local time) announced the lifting of the ban on US military refueling aircraft landing at Ben Gurion International Airport just one day after this order was issued.
Previously, on July 14, the Israel Airport Authority (IAA), under the Ministry of Transport, applied a temporary ban on the reason that the airport was overloaded during the summer tourist peak.
In June, the US military pledged to reduce the number of aircraft parked at Ben Gurion International Airport from 72 to 20. However, there are still 34 US military aircraft deployed here.
According to IAA General Director Sharon Kedmi, airport overload risks causing about 50,000 air tickets to be canceled from now until the end of the month.
However, after the US sent protests to Israel, the country's Ministry of Transport directed the air traffic control department to lift the ban.
Kan public media group reported that Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev said that some US military aircraft will be transferred from Ben Gurion International Airport to Israeli military bases, bringing the remaining number of aircraft here to the level that the two sides previously agreed upon.
